How is that possible, you ask? I mean, in the first novel, the main character Drothe managed sworn in steel douglas hulick kill a legend, rise to the top of the underworld to become the newest Gray Prince, and burned down a good portion of the imperial capital while he was at it.
And because of that, a lot of my more recent memories of the book involve simply wanting to get it done.
To be finished with it. To kick its ass out the door and never see it again. Well, you get the idea. It was an accomplishment and a relief, yes, but something I treasured?
So I sat, and I thought. And I realized that there were, in fact, a number of parts of this book I liked just fine.
